A century at Mearns Cross
Mearns Bowling Club was founded in 1920 by a group of local businessmen and villagers who wanted a green in the heart of the growing village of Newton Mearns. The original green was laid on land off Ayr Road, and a small timber pavilion served as the first clubhouse.
Through the 1950s and 60s the club grew with the village. A ladies' section was formed in 1958, and the present clubhouse was built in 1974 with funds raised by members.

Our centenary
In 2020 the club reached its 100th year. Its centenary was recognised in the House of Commons, in a motion on lawn bowling clubs in East Renfrewshire. Celebrations were scaled back during the pandemic, but members marked the milestone with a centenary trophy competition that is still played every August.
